The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old driver, Adesola Ogunrotifa, in Abuja after he allegedly absconded with his employer’s vehicle from Akure, Ondo State.
The command said the suspect was tracked and apprehended through an intelligence-led operation following a complaint lodged by the vehicle owner, Mrs. Remilekun, at the B Division Police Station in Akure.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh.
According to the police, the complainant reported that she employed Ogunrotifa as her personal driver in July 2025.
The statement said trouble began on July 5, 2026, when the suspect drove his employer to the Christ Apostolic Church, Oke Isegun, Akure, for a church service but allegedly fled with her Hyundai saloon car after dropping her off.
Following the report, detectives immediately launched an investigation and deployed intelligence gathering and other strategic measures to trace the suspect’s whereabouts.
The police said the operation led investigators to Abuja, where Ogunrotifa was arrested, while the stolen Hyundai vehicle was recovered intact.
The command added that the suspect has been arraigned before a court for prosecution.
Commending the operatives involved in the operation, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Felix Ohagwu, praised their professionalism and commitment, describing the arrest and recovery as another success in the command’s campaign against crime.
He reiterated that the police would continue to pursue criminal suspects wherever they might be hiding and urged residents to promptly report suspicious activities, assuring them that every genuine complaint would receive swift and professional attention.
