Sharing is caring!

Professor Jelili Akinlade of the Department of Animal Production and Health, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso has identified deep love and affection towards animals species as key to Upholding Animal Rights in Nigeria

Professor Akinlade, who stated this at a Webinar on fundamental animal rights, organised by the Society for Animal Rights Protection, explained that anyone that doesn’t show interest ,likeness, demonstrate affinity, to animals directly violates the rights of animal species in his or her care.

These are moral principles grounded in the belief that non-human’ animals deserve: the, ability to live as they wish, without being subjected to the desires of human beings. Animal rights come into direct opposition with animal exploitation,’which includes animals`used by humans for’ avariety of reasons, be it for-food; as experimental objects, or-even-pets.”

He submitted that should animal rights be recognised, control of animal exploitative industries, environmental problems from the industries, including water pollution, air pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, and deforestation would greatly reduce.

Halting the- widespread use of animals would eliminate the systematic cruelty ‘and denial of choice that animal industry perpetuate. The physical and psychological pain endured by animals in places like factory farms has reached a point many consider to be unacceptable, to say the least”. Animals are mutilated by humans in different.”ways, including castrations, dehorning, and cutting off various body parts; usually without the use of anesthetic.”

Professor Akinlade canvassed proper feeding of animals, access to medical care insurance coverage, safety and protection against adverse weather conditions and slaughtering with humane and dignity to enhance environmental and human benefits from animals.
