Court Orders Autopsy on UNIMED Registrar’s Mysterious Death

‎The Coroner’s Court, sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital, has ordered a post-mortem examination into the circumstances surrounding the sudden and mysterious death of Mr. Ezekiel Imole Adeniran, the Registrar of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED).

In a significant development, the immediate past Acting Vice-Chancellor of UNIMED, Professor Adolphus Odogun Loto, has been summoned by the court as an interested party in the ongoing inquest.

His name was officially listed alongside others believed to have had direct or indirect connections to the deceased.

‎Presiding over the Case Management Conference, Chief Magistrate Dr. Dickson Ogunfuyi emphasized that the Coroner’s inquest is purely investigative in nature, with the primary aim of determining whether the death was natural, violent, or suspicious.

‎Also summoned were Mr. Louis Odunayo, the deceased’s official driver; Mr. Ladi Popoola, mentioned in a purported dying declaration; and Mr. Abdusalam Taiwo, said to have received the alleged final phone message from the deceased.

‎Mortuary attendants from the facility preserving the body were also identified as relevant witnesses.

‎The Coroner directed that the autopsy be conducted by a government pathologist, under the supervision of the Ondo State Hospital Management Board.

‎The examination must take place in the presence of the investigating police officer, the pathologist, and representatives of the deceased’s family, to ensure transparency.

‎A preliminary autopsy report is expected within seven days, with the final findings to be submitted within four weeks. The inquest was adjourned until September 19, 2025.
