The Founder of Christ Followers Evangelical Ministry (CFEM), Prophetess Esther Oluwakemi Adebayo Adonai JP, has expressed concern over the growing trend of moral decadence among church leaders in Nigeria, saying it is now difficult for many pastors to preach against unrighteousness due to their personal involvement in immoral acts.
Prophetess Adebayo, in a powerful sermon, lamented that many church leaders today have abandoned the biblical mandate to “preach the word in and out of season,” noting that discipline and correction have been completely eroded in many congregations.
She observed that instead of standing as examples of righteousness, some pastors have become active participants in sin, making it impossible for them to correct or caution their members. According to her, the fear of God and commitment to holiness have taken the back seat in most churches.
“Pastors now impregnate church members and still mount the pulpit to preach as though nothing happened,” Prophetess Adebayo said, adding that this growing trend is contributing to the spiritual decline in many places of worship.
The cleric further alleged that some pastors now disciple prostitutes and send them out to sleep with men for money, which they are expected to return to the church leaders, describing the act as shameful and unbiblical, calling on genuine ministers to rise and restore sanity to the body of Christ.
She expressed disappointment that churches which ought to be houses of purity have now become havens for iniquity. “Churches now harbour sin and iniquity. Instead of being a place of repentance, many churches now accommodate and protect sinful lifestyles,” she said.
Prophetess Adebayo also criticised the organisation of certain church events such as praise nights, claiming they have now been turned into grounds for immoral activities.
“What ought to be a night of worship has become a gathering of all kinds of indecency,” she lamented.
She accused some pastors of faking miracles to deceive their congregations. According to her, instead of trusting God for genuine manifestations of His power, many church leaders now stage-manage healings and testimonies to attract followers and wealth.
In her words, “Many pastors now take over church members’ properties under the guise of praying and sanctifying them. People who trust their pastors blindly end up losing their lands, vehicles, houses including wives.”
Prophetess Adebayo also noted that some pastors exploit family issues to manipulate relationships within their congregations. “Because a pastor wants to befriend a church member’s wife, he begins to blame the husband for every issue in the home, causing more division,” she explained.
She bemoaned the fact that truth is now scarce in many pulpits. “The truth is now far from their mouths. What you hear are motivational talks and deceitful words. Covetousness has now become the order of the day in the church,” she added.
The cleric alleged that some prophetesses have also joined in the exploitation, collecting personal belongings from members for selfish gain. “You now see prophetesses asking for people’s bags, jewellery, clothes, and even household items as spiritual offerings” she said.
Prophetess Adebayo called on Christian leaders to return to the foundations of holiness, truth, and righteousness. She emphasised that only a genuine revival and fear of God can restore the lost glory of the church.
She urged members of the public to be discerning and prayerful, warning that not all who call themselves pastors or prophetesses today are truly called by God. “Let everyone test the spirit and examine the fruits, for by their fruits, we shall know them,” she concluded.
