Ondo State Governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has commended the Nigerian military for its gallantry in the fight against terrorism, expressing optimism that the menace would soon be a thing of the past.
The governor made this known during the 2026 Armed Forces And Remembrance Day Emblem Launch Ceremony held in Akure the state capital.
Governor Aiyedatiwa promised to continue to support members of the armed forces, particularly families of fallen heroes and their loved ones as well as the injured officers.
He urged members of the Nigerian Legion to take advantage of various government empowerment programmes, while also encouraging well-meaning individuals and organisations to support to them.
As part of the event, the governor announced a donation of five million naira on behalf of the Ondo State Government and also pledged his one month’s salary in support of the Armed Forces and Remembrance Day emblem.
Similarly, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Taiwo Fasoranti donated one million, five hundred thousand naira on behalf of the State Executive Council, while the Deputy Governor, Dr Olayide Adelami gave five hundred thousand naira including some other donations.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Ondo State Chapter, Retired Major Folorunsho Ajibowu, expressed appreciation to the government for its consistent support to families of fallen heroes and incapacitated veterans.
Highlight of the occasion was the decoration of dignitaries with the Armed Forces And Remembrance emblem.
