Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved the payment of three months’ salary arrears owed to staff of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO), following his direct intervention in the ongoing dispute between the school’s management and workers.
According to a statement made available by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, the Governor gave the approval on Monday, “following his intervention in the labour dispute between the management and staff of the institution.”
In a separate development the same day, Governor Aiyedatiwa held a crucial meeting with the leadership of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Ondo State chapter, in a bid to resolve the ongoing strike action by judicial workers.
According to the statement, “the judiciary workers had embarked on an indefinite strike action on June 13, 2025 over what they called the failure of the State Government to implement parts of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) granting financial autonomy to the state judiciary.
After a lengthy discussion on the lingering issues, particularly on the implementation of the financial autonomy, the Governor directed the setting up of a committee to work out the modalities regarding the release of funds to the state judiciary.”
The committee, which will include representatives from both the government and the union, is to be chaired by the Commissioner for Finance, Mrs. Omowumi Isaac, the statement disclosed.
“Governor Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improved welfare for its workers and the interests of the judiciary.
The JUSUN Chairman, Comrade Oluwafemi Afolabi, who led the delegation, expressed appreciation to the Governor for the ongoing construction of the ultra-modern judiciary complex in Akure and the recent appointment of more High Court judges. He also commended the administration for regular salary payments and a strong stance on staff welfare.
Afolabi assured the Governor that the resolutions reached would be communicated to the union’s members, and that the indefinite strike would be called off.
Other officials present at the meeting included the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Prince Segun Omojuwa; Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Olukayode Ajulo, SAN; Commissioner for Finance, Mrs. Omowumi Isaac; and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Union Matters, Comrade Bola Taiwo.
