President Bola Tinubu has described Nigeria’s bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as a worthy achievement, saying it “surely feels good like gold,” as he congratulated the Super Eagles for their resilience and determination at the tournament.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, the President said the national team deserved commendation for overcoming the disappointment of their semi-final loss to host nation Morocco and finishing the competition on a strong note.
President Tinubu noted that the Super Eagles showed great character by bouncing back to defeat Egypt, a seven-time AFCON champion, in the third-place match, which was decided by a penalty shootout after regulation time, during which Nigeria dominated play.
According to the President, the performance of the team throughout the tournament once again reflected the determination, persistence and can-do spirit for which Nigerians are known, adding that the players remained undaunted despite the setback suffered in the semi-final.
He expressed pride in the team as they prepare to receive their hard-earned bronze medals in Rabat, Morocco, thanking the players for making the nation proud and saluting them as gallant ambassadors of Nigeria on the continental stage.
