A 20-year old woman, Favour Suberu, has recounted her harrowing experience after being kidnapped alongside her brother in Edo State, before she was later rescued in Ondo Forest by operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun.
Favour said the incident occurred on April 13, 2026, around Glory Land School area in Igara, Edo State, while she and her brother were on an errand to fix a faulty bus engine.
According to her, they were abducted in the afternoon by armed men and taken into a forest in Ondo State, where they were held at gunpoint.
She explained that an initial attempt to escape failed due to constant threat posed by their captors.
“An opportunity, however, arose the second day when the kidnappers fell asleep.
“My brother asked me to pick up their weapons, but I noticed one of them was still awake, so I alerted him and returned to where I was tied,” she said.
Favour added that her brother later managed to free himself and attempted to seize the weapons. “As he tried to pick the last weapon, a cutlass, one of the kidnappers woke up and raised an alarm. I ran without knowing where I was heading,” she recounted.
She said her escape led her to Amotekun operatives, who rescued her during a patrol.
Expressing gratitude, Favour credited the security outfit for saving her life. “If not for Amotekun, I would have been dead by now,” she said, while appealing for continued efforts to locate her brother, whose whereabouts remain unknown.
Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Ondo Amotekun Corps, Adenike Jimoh, said the victim was rescued on April 14 during a bush-combing operation in Isua Akoko, Akoko South-East Local Government Area of Ondo State.
She stated that the victim was abducted in Igara, Edo State, and transported into a forest in Ondo State before her rescue.
“The victim was brought to the state headquarters for further investigation.
Meanwhile, our operatives are still in the forest continuing the search for her brother,” Adenike said.
