Properties worth millions of naira were on Saturday destroyed in a fire outbreak at Arakale Market, located beside Aralepo Palace in Akure South Local Government area of Ondo State.
Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Fire Service in Ondo State, Mr. Somi Ajayi, said firefighters responded promptly after receiving a distress call.
“We mobilised to the scene within three minutes of receiving the call and we were able to contain the fire quickly to prevent further damage,” he said.
Mr Ajayi disclosed that three shops were affected, with one partially burnt due to the swift intervention of firefighters, who prevented the fire from spreading to nearby shops. He estimated the value of damaged goods worth millions of nair
He advised traders to always switch off electrical appliances before leaving their shops and also install fire extinguishers to help manage emergencies.
Victims of the incident have appealed to the Ondo State Government for support to enable them recover from their losses and rebuild their businesses.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, with at least three shops affected by the inferno.
