The Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC) has emphasized the importance of synergy among relevant government agencies, civil society organisations and other stakeholders in ensuring a safer morning environment for Nigerians.
Mrs Rosemary Alo, the Oyo State Sector Commander of FRSC stated this while addressing the management team and course participants of the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) Zaria who were on a field trip to the command’s headquarters in Ibadan.
Alo noted that collaboration among road safety stakeholders remains crucial for effective road safety management. This, she said, would lead to a holistic approach to road safety, addressing multiple aspects of the issue and more efficient use of resources.
According to her, “Collaborative efforts among critical stakeholders in road safety management can reach a wider audience, increasing public awareness and education.
“By working together, road safety agencies and other stakeholders can leverage their collective strengths, expertise, and resources to achieve greater impact and reduce road crashes and injuries, “she said.
The sector commander charged NITT course participants to strive to contribute their quotas towards achieving zero road traffic deaths in Nigeria.
Speaking on the impact of Public Enlightenment(PE) on road safety management, the FRSC Public Relations Officer in Oyo state, CRC Mayowa Odewo, noted that public enlightenment plays a vital role in promoting road safety in Nigeria.
He reiterated the need to foster effective partnerships between government agencies, communities, and stakeholders. He called for more funding for public enlightenment campaigns and continuous assessment of the effectiveness of public enlightenment campaigns on road users.
“Public enlightenment is essential for raising awareness on road safety rules, regulations, and best practices and also to encourage drivers, pedestrians, and passengers to adopt safe behaviours.
“By educating citizens and promoting safe behaviors, we can reduce crashes, save lives, and create a safer transportation environment.
“We also need to deploy modern technology by leveraging digital platforms and social media to amplify public enlightenment campaigns, “he said.
The event also featured lectures “the role of Road Transport Safety Standardization Scheme in Nigeria Road Safety Strategy (NRSS), The Nigerian Number Plate and Drivers License Process and the role of Special Marshal among others”.
The FRSC Deputy Corps Commander incharge of training, DCC Rita O Omowa, in her remarks appreciated the resource persons and participants for their doggedness and wealth of knowledge.
