Former members of the National Assembly from Oyo State under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have endorsed Senator Sharafadeen Alli as their preferred governorship candidate for the 2027 election in the state.
The endorsement was contained in a statement jointly signed by the Secretary General, Akinrogun Taiwo, and the Publicity Secretary, Hon. Oyetunji Omotayo, ahead of the 2027 governorship race in Oyo State.
The former lawmakers said the decision followed extensive consultations and careful assessment of aspirants seeking the APC governorship ticket, noting that the party is blessed with credible and accomplished individuals.
According to the group, recent developments within the party informed their resolve to align with the position of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and major APC leaders in Oyo State in supporting Senator Alli for the governorship ticket.
They stated that the endorsement was not about personal interests but about the unity, stability and electoral success of the APC in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 general election.
The ex-lawmakers expressed confidence in the leadership of President Tinubu, describing him as a leader known for identifying capable individuals for strategic positions, adding that his backing for Senator Alli reinforced their decision.
The group also commended APC leaders in Oyo State for endorsing Senator Alli during a stakeholders’ meeting held last Friday, urging other interest groups within the party to support the move in the interest of cohesion and victory.
They further highlighted Senator Alli’s record as a serving senator, former Secretary to the Oyo State Government, former local government chairman and former chairman of the Odu’a Group of Companies, saying his experience in both executive and legislative positions makes him a suitable candidate to lead Oyo State under the APC platform in 2027.
