WWD 2025: FUOYE Professor Seeks Protection of Wildlife Creatures From Extinction
A Professor of Agricultural Economics and Extension at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Raphael Omolehin has called for more efforts to protect varieties of animals and plants from going into extinction.
Professor Omolehin noted that continuous destruction of the wildlife, which comprise animals, plants and body of waters, would lead to inability of the coming generation to identify them.
He explained the economic importance of wildlife species including birds, insects and earthworms as pollinators which help crops to yield bountifully, preventing pollution by filtering the air and releasing oxygen for human-being.
Professor Omolehin noted that wildlife which served as source of tourism, education as well as employment for tour guide and veterinarians, stressed that people in the developed countries often go for picnic in the wild, which help them to be closer to nature, look fresher and calm, which was absence in Nigeria due to insecurity.
