We’re Formidable Force in Oyo Politics – Forum 68
Forum 68, a group formed by former local government chairmen and councillors sacked by the Seyi Makinde led Administration has boasted that their impact in the politics of the pace setter state is a force to reckon.
The forum noted that the supreme court landmark judge which affirmed them as democratically elected local government chairmen and councillors and as well condemned their unconstitutional removal from office was strategic in political history.
Speaking at a get together party of the Ex Algon members with chieftains of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Oyo state, Chairman, Forum 68, Prince Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye, said the Forum will continued to offer constructive opposition and useful advice when necessary to the state government and local councils on democratic local government administration and grassroots development to move Oyo State forward.
“Forum 68; consisting of 68 ex-LG Chairmen, 68 ex-Vice Chairmen, 610 Councilors, is a convergence point of unity and peace building to reckon with to make sure that our party(APC) is stronger, ready to return to power at both local government and state levels of governance. The goodwill of the general public in this respect has been tremendously encouraging.
We promise you all and the rank and file members and the general public that we won’t disappoint you, we are capable to victoriously meet the task ahead. Nothing can be compared with solid broad political base, valuable experience gained over the years in critical areas of administration, grassroots democracy, contacts and development. “
Abass-Aleshinloye, expressed the Forum 68 full support to local government autonomy saying it was a fundamental necessity to grassroots development and national development.
Our people should not see the recently granted autonomy by the Supreme Court in the case of the FGN vs State Governments as a mere government to government affair. It’s a call to duty, for more popular participation by the people to guarantee free and fair elections, allocations & budget monitoring, projects choice, projects implemention monitoring. This is to make sure that transparency, integrity and accountability are not compromised. “
The Acting Chairman, APC, Oyo State , Alhaji Olayide Abas called for unity among party members to reclaim lost ground in future elections.
Abas, urged members of the party to remain steadfast, committed and peaceful so as to upturn the defeat caused by lack of unity in the last election.
