Union Baptist Church, Ekotedo, Ibadan, has reeled out a weeklong programme to commemorate eight decades of spiritual impact, community service, and commitment to the Gospel.
Founded in 1945, the church has grown into a hub of worship and refuge for generations. The Church, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Jonathan A. Babalola, continues to provide spiritual guidance and support to the community through various ministries.
Speaking on the journey so far, Rev. Dr. Babalola said, “This milestone is not just about looking back. It’s about giving thanks for God’s faithfulness, honouring those who came before us, and renewing our commitment to serve our community with love and hope.”

The anniversary celebration, which features a series of spiritually enriching and socially impactful activities, will kick off on Sunday, July 20, 2025 with a thanksgiving service and continues throughout the week.
During the week, members of the church would visit the Children of Promise Orphanage Home in Bashorun, Ibadan, and hold special revival and prayer sessions. The church also scheduled a medical outreach for Thursday 24th July to cater to the health needs of the local community.
A major highlight of the celebration will be the launching of a N100 million appeal fund for Union Baptist College. This event, which will also feature awards and a memorial in honour of departed members, comes up on Saturday, July 26.
The celebration will culminate in a grand anniversary thanksgiving service on Sunday, July 27, where the President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, Rev. Dr. Israel Adelani Akanji, is expected to minister.
The committee enjoined all current and former members, and the general public, to participate in the celebration.
Union Baptist Church reaffirmed its dedication to the Great Commission as stated in Matthew 28:19-20, pledging to continue spreading the message of Christ, serving with compassion, and nurturing a legacy of faith for generations to come.
