UCH Opens Medical Museum to Public (PHOTO)
The University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan has unveiled its newly refurbished medical museum to the public, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria’s healthcare landscape.
The museum was the first of its kind among tertiary healthcare institutions in Nigeria.
The Hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Professor Jesse Otegbayo, who officially announced the opening of the medical museum for commercial use, called on individuals, private and corporate organisations to explore the nations treasure trove of medical history.
The UCH medical museum displays the rich history and evolution of medicine in Nigeria as it’s conceived to serve as a beacon of enlightenment, offering invaluable insights into the past, present, and future of healthcare in Nigeria.
Commissioned on February 9th, 2011 and nestled on the fifth floor of the hospital, the museum offers visitors a captivating journey through the annals of medical advancement.
It houses an impressive collection of artifacts, and showcases the inaugural equipment utilized during the hospital’s inception, alongside a diverse array of orthodox medical relics.
One of the museum’s most striking feature is its comprehensive display of photographs and portraits, immortalizing the pioneering figures who have shaped the medical landscape in Nigeria and across Africa.
It also chronicles the founding fathers of medicine to notable Chief Executives and Boards of Management as well as pays homage to those who have contributed to UCH’s esteemed legacy.
