A tragic accident has cast a pall over the Ute community in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, where a mother and her child lost their lives after being struck by a motor grader along the Olujewu–Igbatoro Road.
The unfortunate incident occurred during a road rehabilitation project undertaken by the local government. The grader, reportedly owned by the Ose Local Government and deployed as part of its rural development programme, suffered a brake failure, leading to the fatal collision.
In a heartfelt statement titled “Ose Local Government Mourns Tragic Loss in Ute Community,” the Chairman of the Local Government, Hon. Barr. Clement Kolapo Ojo, expressed deep sorrow over the incident.
It is with profound sorrow and a heavy heart that I address the people of Ute and the entire local government over the deeply saddening incident that claimed the lives of a beloved mother and her young child,” the statement read. “What was intended as a noble effort to improve infrastructure has now brought us deep grief.”
Chairman Ojo emphasized that the local government responded swiftly by visiting the scene, consoling the bereaved family, and pledging a full investigation into the mechanical failure. He assured residents that safety protocols would be reviewed to prevent such tragedies in the future.
We recognise the unimaginable pain this has caused the immediate family,” he said. “Their grief is our grief, and we are committed to supporting them emotionally, morally, and materially.”
The local government extended its condolences to the family and the entire Ute community, praying for comfort and strength during this difficult time.
