A commercial taxi driver, Adedayo Adegbola has been arrested by detectives of the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, in connection with multiple cases of rape, assault and armed robbery targeting female passengers across the state.
The arrest followed viral online posts in which several victims identified the suspect’s picture as the man who allegedly assaulted them after posing as a taxi driver.
The spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, in a statement, said the arrest was made after a discreet investigation ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Olohudare Jimoh.
Adebisi said the vehicle allegedly used in committing the crimes, a red Toyota Corolla with number plate JJJ 226 HT, was recovered as an exhibit.
Adebisi added that the suspect is currently in police custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend his accomplices believed to have participated in the attacks.
“The command urges any of the victims of this vicious and notorious suspect to report to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, to provide relevant information and evidence to help the investigation. Their identities will be properly protected,” the statement added.
