Super Typhoon Man-Yi Hits Philippines’ Luzon Island
Super Typhoon Man-Yi battered the Philippines’ Luzon island on Sunday, bringing heavy rain and strong winds of 185 kph (115 mph) to Metro Manila.
Over a million people were evacuated, with the storm triggering floods and damaging buildings in several areas.
After making landfall in Catanduanes province on Saturday night, it weakened slightly but continued to threaten coastal areas, with the storm surges a major concern for residents like Amalia Santisas, who evacuated with her children for safety.
Civil defence chief Ariel Nepomuceno told Reuters that despite the destruction, no casualties have been reported, though homes, schools, and businesses in Catanduanes were damaged.
Man-Yi is the 6th tropical cyclone to hit the Philippines in just one month.
