Storey Building Collapse Claims 10 in Ibadan
Ten people have been feared dead in a building collapse that occured at Jegede area of Ona Ara Local Government, Ibadan, Oyo State, while eight others are currently receiving treatment in two different Private hospitals.
The collapsed storey building, an Old building consists of ten rooms with many occupants.
A witness, Elder Olajide Osifade said, the building suddenly collapsed in the middle of the night when most of the inhabitants were fast asleep.
A friend to the owner of the building who spoke under conditions of anonymity explained that, the landlord woke up at night to urinate when he was suddenly hit by stone on the head.
On the possible cause of the incident, another witness attributed it to rainfall.
Speaking, Chairman, Ona Ara Local Government Area, Dr Temitope Kolapo said he was notified about the incident around two O’clock in the morning and he immediately swung into action to inform the concerned Authorities.
Kolapo said a victim who was in critical condition had been taken to a private hospital along ring road area of Ibadan for better medical attention.
It was observed that the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Environmental Health Officers, the Nigeria police and the State Fire service were all on ground to manage the situation at the scene.
