Self Acclaimed Monarch Bags Jail Term in Ogun
A Magistrate Court sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta has sentenced a self acclaimed traditional ruler, Mufutau Dosunmu to six months imprisonment for falsely parading himself as a king in Ogun State.
Mufutau Dosunmu who falsely presented himself as the Osolo of Ado-Odo in the Ado-Odo/Ota local government area of the State was arraigned for multiple charges bordering on alleged impersonation and disturbance of peace within the Ado-Odo Magisterial district, between January and April 2022 in violation of the Obas and Chiefs Law of Ogun State.
The prosecution counsel, Mr Adebayo Adesanya, had told the court that the defendant among other allegations paraded himself as a traditional ruler, donning regalia and a beaded crown, despite lacking the rightful title and also instructed a town crier to announce movement restrictions due to spiritual rites in the community during the period.
Delivering the judgment, Chief Magistrate E.O Idowu declared that Dosunmu was found guilty of six counts and sentenced him to six months imprisonment with an option of a fine of 50,000 naira on each count for which he was convicted.
The Chief Magistrate announced that the sentences would run consecutively from Tuesday, 28th November 2023
