The Ondo State Government has ordered the immediate and indefinite closure of St. Louis Primary School, Ondo, following what it described as persistent violations of regulatory guidelines binding private educational institutions in the state.
The decision was announced by the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, during an inspection tour of schools in Ondo West Local Government Area.
Prof. Ajibefun stated that despite several warnings and engagements with officials of the Ministry, the school failed to meet statutory requirements set for private school operations, leaving the government with no option but to enforce sanctions.
“This action is not targeted at any institution.
However, the government will not compromise on standards.
Every school must comply with the minimum requirements stipulated by law. In the case of St. Louis Primary School, persistent disregard for regulations made this step inevitable,” he said.
The Commissioner added that the shutdown would remain in force until the school meets all conditions for reinstatement and formally aligns with the regulatory framework governing private education in the state.
He also cautioned other private school proprietors to promptly regularise their operations, noting that the government would apply similar sanctions on any school found violating approved guidelines.
The Ministry advised parents and guardians of pupils at St. Louis Primary School to abide by the directive and make interim educational arrangements for their children, assuring them that the decision prioritises the safety and learning outcomes of the pupils.
The state government maintained that the ongoing clampdown is part of broader efforts to strengthen quality assurance across schools and ensure that no institution undermines the educational standards set for optimal performance in Ondo State.
