Philanthropist Pays Examination Fees for 120 Indigent Students in Ibadan
A philanthropist, Dr Babatunde Lawal, has presented free registration forms for the 2024 NECO examinations to 120 indigent students of Oke-Bola Comprehensive High School in Ibadan.
Speaking, Lawa, said the gesture was aimed at supporting education in the country.
Lawal, who is Chairman of Brail Construction, an indigenous civil engineering company, added that the choice of the school was because of his historical attachment to it without any political undertone.
He added that the selected students were supported to relieve their parents of the burden of exam fees.
“The economic hardship in the country is biting harder, and many parents are going through a lot to ensure that their children remain in school.
“So, the primary aim of investing a few millions of Naira into the payment of NECO examinations fees is to give back to society.
“No amount of money we spend on the education of children is a waste because they are the future of our country,” Lawal said.
He urged the beneficiaries to study hard so as to become responsible citizens and good ambassadors of their school in the nearest future.
In her response, the school’s Principal, Mrs Florence Omoniyi, lauded the donor for assisting the indigent students of the school.
She added that the gesture would go a long way in addressing the challenges faced by students, particularly children with limited prospects for a better future.
A beneficiary, Taiwo Adepeju, said the payment of his examinations fee would serve as a motivation for him to read more so as not to disappoint his helper.
Another beneficiary, Karimat Majengbasan, said she would also work hard so as to be able to give back to the society in future.
