The Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Clement Haastrup, has vowed to lead his people to resist illegal mining in ijesa gold-rich communities during his reign.
Oba Haastrup made this vow while addressing personalities at the unveiling of a video documentary on the state of mining in Ijesaland.
He clarified that Ijesa people are not cowards but believe in peaceful co-existence with everyone.
The owa Obokun of Ijesa land lamented the activities of illegal miners in Ijesa communities, saying it exposed Ijesaland to environmental pollution.
The monarch said the issue of gold mining in Ijesa land has been an area of interest to him for the past 10 years.
