As Osun State prepares for the 2026 governorship election, the Directorate of Politics and Governance (DPG), the political arm of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), has called for the emergence of a Christian governor
In a statement jointly signed by its State Director, Rev. Isaac Alamu, and Secretary, Rev. Walter Aworanti, the group said its demand was based on equity, fairness, and the need for religious balance in the state’s leadership.
The PFN-DPG argued that greater Christian participation in governance would enhance accountability, moral values, and inclusivity. It maintained that the Christian community deserved a turn at the governorship, claiming it had been underrepresented since the state’s creation.
The group also faulted what it described as “misleading” demographic claims that Muslims constitute 67 percent of the state’s population. According to the PFN-DPG, more credible statistics put Christians at 47 percent, Muslims at 43 percent, while adherents of other faiths make up the remaining 10 percent.
