The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command, has reiterated its unwavering commitment to the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure across the state, assuring residents of enhanced security through massive deployment and intelligence-led operations.
The State Commandant, CC Oluyemi Joshua Ibiloye, cpo, mspsp, fwip, fniis, JP, gave this assurance during a media parley with journalists held on Wednesday, January 7, 2025, at the Command Headquarters in Akure, where he presented the Command’s operational scorecard for 2025 and outlined strategic plans for 2026.
According to the Commandant, the Command handled a total of 2,550 cases during the year under review. These include six cases of dealing in adulterated petroleum products, ten cases of transformer vandalism, 52 cases of prepaid meter theft, and 20 cases of malicious damage to farms by herders.
Other recorded offences include 15 cybercrime cases, seven robbery cases, ten cases of illegal mining, ten cases of human trafficking, 241 cases of assault and threat to life, 328 cases of obtaining by false pretence, and 52 cases of illegal gas retailing, among others.
Speaking on manpower development and capacity building, Commandant Ibiloye said the Command prioritised continuous training of personnel to enhance professionalism and operational effectiveness.
He noted that officers were trained in peacebuilding, cybersecurity, respect for human dignity and citizens’ rights, capacity-building workshops for law enforcement officers, arms training for 70 officers, and refresher courses for 25 management staff.
The Commandant further disclosed that the NSCDC Tactical Squad has strengthened collaboration with sister security agencies through joint task force operations and vehicular patrols of identified flashpoints across the state.
“We currently have a specialised team known as the Akoko Squad, which has significantly reduced kidnapping activities in the Akoko axis. Similarly, the Ala Squad, working jointly with other security agencies, has restored relative calm to Akure North, an area that recently experienced repeated security breaches,” he said.
Outlining projections for 2026, Commandant Ibiloye stressed the need to intensify efforts in protecting critical national assets and infrastructure through increased deployment of personnel and assets. He declared zero tolerance for economic saboteurs involved in oil pipeline vandalism and the distribution of adulterated petroleum products.
He added that the Command would upscale its readiness to prevent, respond to, and mitigate natural and man-made disasters, while also strengthening collaboration with relevant stakeholders to ensure that all schools in Ondo State are registered on the Safe School Portal and subjected to periodic security risk assessments
“Gentlemen of the press, let me reaffirm that the NSCDC, Ondo State Command, remains resolute, proactive, and people-centred in the discharge of its constitutional mandate. While our 2025 scorecard reflects our collective efforts, our 2026 projections underscore a renewed commitment to smarter intelligence-led operations, deeper collaboration, and sustained community partnership,” the Commandant concluded.
