Ondo 2024: Aiyedatiwa,16 others Sign Peace Accord
Ahead of the November 16th governorship election in ondo state, Seventeen candidates including governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and their parties chairmen have signed a peace accord in Akure, the state capital.
The signing of the peace accord was witnessed by various parties members and major stakeholders including INEC, Police and IPAC.
The Chairman National Peace Committee and former head of state Alhaji Abdulsalami Abubakar commended government and security personnel for championing peaceful coexistence in the state and urged them to sustain it.
General Abubakar further urged candidates,party loyalists to at all times give peace a chance and accept the outcome of the result.
In a goodwill message, National Chairman, INEC, Prof. Mahmud Yakubu pledged the commitment of INEC officials and ad-hoc staff, in ensuring timely dispatch of electoral materials and anticipation of a much successful election.
The inspector General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun represented by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mr Abiodun Alabi said the security agency had concluded arrangements in mobilizing its personnel, armoured vehicles and helicopter to ensure safety of everyone.
The police boss also warned against vote buying during the election saying such would not be tolerated.
Responding on behalf of all the candidates, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa promised that all candidates and parties would abide by the rules of the game and allow peace during and after the election.
Bishop of Sokoto Catholic Diocese and the Convener of National Peace Committee NPC, Bishop Matthew Kukah appealed to the various parties to ensure a hitch free election.
