Old Naira Notes Remains Legal Tender Indefinitely – CBN
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has clarified that old naira notes will remain legal tender indefinitely, urging Nigerians to ignore claims of a December 31, 2024, deadline.
In a statement posted on X, CBN’s acting Director of Corporate Communications, Sidi Ali Hakama, affirmed that the old N200, N500, and N1,000 notes would continue to be valid, following a Supreme Court order from November 29, 2023.
Recall that the House of Representatives had indicated a 2024 deadline.
