Ogun State has issued a traffic advisory ahead of the 22nd National Sports Festival, tagged Gateway Games 2025, scheduled to hold from Friday, May 16 to Friday, May 30, 2025.
According to a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE),CDR. Babatunde Akinbiyi, on behalf of the Commander General/Chief Executive the festival is expected to generate heavy human and vehicular traffic across the state, especially in Abeokuta, Ijebu-Ode, and Remo zones where major sporting activities will take place.
The opening ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 18 at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta. Motorists without essential business in the area are advised to avoid the stadium vicinity.
From Monday, May 19, the route leading to the Alake Sports Centre, Ijeja, will be converted to one-way traffic until the end of the games. Vehicles parked along the affected roads must be removed before Sunday, May 18, or risk being towed.
Traffic diversions are also expected around designated areas in Sagamu, including the NYSC Camp Gate, RSS Roundabout, Ita-Oba Junction, and others noting that TRACE officials and security agencies will be stationed at these points to manage traffic flow.
In Ikenne and Ilisan, traffic will be monitored and controlled to prevent obstruction. Motorists are advised to stay alert, follow posted signs, and exercise caution, particularly near cyclists and other athletes.
In Ijebu-Ode, traffic around the Dipo Dina Stadium will be rerouted to ensure free movement. Drivers heading toward Idobi-Idomila from Itale-Odoegbo are to make a U-turn at Talbot Roundabout, pass Mosun Cafe, and continue through Igbeba Road. Those traveling in the opposite direction should use Otunba Onanuga Street and Femtos Junction to reach their destinations.
TRACE noted that officers would be deployed along the 18 major traffic corridors in the state to support the movement of over 10,000 athletes and officials expected to transit from Babcock University, Ilisan-Remo, where participants will be camped.
The agency appealed to the public for cooperation and patience during the period, assuring that measures have been put in place to reduce delays, maintain order, and ensure smooth traffic flow.
