Ogun Court Sentences Portable to Three Months in Prison Over Assault on Police Officer

Nigerian street-hop artist Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been sentenced to three months in prison by a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ifo, Ogun State. The sentence comes with an option of a fine totaling N30,000.

Portable was convicted on two counts: assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest. The court found him guilty of physically attacking a police inspector and obstructing officers while they attempted to serve him an arrest warrant in March 2023.

The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Olumide Awoleke, told the court that the incident occurred on November 18, 2022, around 11:00 a.m., in the Okeosa area of Ilogbo, within the Ifo Magisterial District.

In his judgment, Chief Magistrate Babajide Ilo sentenced Portable to one month in prison with an option of a N10,000 fine for the first count, and two months with a N20,000 fine option for the second.
