In a bold move to strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare landscape, the Nigerian Red Cross Society has announced the launch of Phase 2 of its Saving Lives and Livelihoods Project—a sweeping $1.5 billion initiative expected to reach over 65 million Nigerians across 10 states.
Unveiled during World Red Cross Day celebrations in Abuja, the project marks a significant leap toward improving access to life-saving vaccines and fortifying public health systems nationwide.
According to President of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Prince Oluyemisi Adeaga, the initiative underscores the urgent need for local vaccine production and resilient healthcare infrastructure.
The project, a collaboration between the Africa Centres for Disease Control (Africa CDC) and the Mastercard Foundation, successfully completed its first phase in 2023. Phase 2 is set to kick off in the second quarter of 2025.
Our goal is simple but powerful—build a healthcare system that works for everyone, especially in times of crisis,” Adeaga said, while also praising Red Cross volunteers involved in current flood relief efforts across more than seven states.
