The Alase of Ola in Osun State, Dr Olufemi Fasanya, has emphasised that peace and unity are fundamental pillars for the development and progress of Ola community and Nigeria at large.
Dr Fasanya, while speaking with Radio Nigeria after completing this year’s seclusion to mark the Odun Alase festival, said it was a significant cultural event for the commencement of new yam eating, which symbolises reconciliation.
He urged all sons and daughters of Ola, both at home and in the diaspora, to live peacefully amongst themselves as they continue to pray for the town’s growth.
Dr Fasanya, recently concluded a three-day-two-night seclusion dedicated to prayer and reflection for forgiveness, peace, unity, and progress of the ancient town.
Rooted in the town’s rich cultural heritage, the tradition fosters harmony and prosperity, which has historically involved reconciliation between the reigning traditional ruler, the Olola of Ola, and the sitting Alase.
In the same vein, Chairman of the Alase family, Mr. David Omidele, highlighted the festival’s role as a period of collective prayer for the development of Ola town.
Also speaking, a family member, Deacon Segun Ejiwale, advised residents of the town to preserve their cultural heritage and not allow religion to erode the town’s longstanding traditions.
Odun Alase, celebrated a day after Odun Olola, involves symbolic rituals such as joint prayer by the Olola and the Alase under a white cloth known as Aso Ala, representing purity and unity, reinforcing the community’s commitment to peace and progress.
