NCS Hands Over Seized Hard Drugs Worth N117 million to NDLEA in Abeokuta
The Nigerian Customs Service has transfered a seizure of hard drugs worth about 117 million naira, intercepted by the operatives of Ogun 1 Area Command of the Service to the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.
The illicit drugs, including about 7, 000 kilograms of cannabis sativa packed in 403 sacks and 6,504 parcels as well as 362 packs of Tramaking tablets of 225 miligrammes each were intercepted at various location in Ogun State between January and November 21st, 2024.
Addressing Journalists at the official handing- over of the substances in Abeokuta, the Ogun 1 Customs Area Controller, Mr James Ojo said the move was in line with the existing inter – agency cooperation with the NDLEA as the agency statutorily saddled with the responsibility of handling such contraband.
The Customs Area Controller who decried the alarming rate of illicit drugs smuggling maintained that the seizures were achieved through the efforts of the Agency’s Intelligence Units at various border posts, adding that the contrabands were traced to have originated from neighbouring West African countries, including Ghana and Cote D’Ivoire.
He emphasized the Command’s unwavering commitment to eradicating illicit activities across the country’s border areas, while advising perpetrators to desist from such acts and soliciting the continued support of relevant stakeholders towards checking the menace.
Receiving the hard drugs, the Commander, Idiroko Special Command of the NDLEA, Mr Olusegun Adeyeye, applauded the Customs Area command for saving the society from the damages which the seized substances could have caused for the nation’s security, economy, and public health if allowed into circulation.
