NBC Urges New Pope to Sustain Humanitarian Legacy of Predecessor

The Nigerian Baptist Convention (NBC) has urged the newly elected Pope of the Catholic Church, Pope Leo XVI, to continue the humanitarian mission of his predecessor, the late Pope Francis, by empowering the needy and the poor in society.

President of the NBC, Rev. Dr. Israel Akanji, made the call while speaking with Radio Nigeria, Ibadan, on the emergence of the new Pontiff.

Rev’d Akanji who noted that records of the antecedents of the new pope indicated that he was a missionary, expressed optimism that Pope Robert Francis Prevost would shore up the mission to liberate the people from poverty and oppression

Rev’d Akanji admonished all Catholics worldwide and Christians to pray for the success of the new pope as he discharge his ordained programmes to the church and the world.
