NAWOJ Counsels Members on Active Roleplay in Entrepreneurship, Politics
The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists has called on it’s members to take active role in entrepreneurial activities and politics to enable them attain relevance in retirement.
Facilitators at the NAWOJ B Zone South West Zonal Summit held in Lagos also corroborate the call and submitted that women needed to assume strategic positions of the economy so as to remain influencial after their active service.
One of them and Publisher of Next Edition News Online, Mrs Victoria Ibanga urged women journalists to take up leadership roles and contribute to good governance for them to remain a force of reckoning.
Mrs Ibanga emphasized the importance of media organisations ensuring positive and diverse representations of women in leadership to change public perceptions and inspire them to pursue their dreams.
On her, an entrepreneur Mrs.Bola Okoli encouraged women journalists to explore business opportunities after leaving office, stating that it is never too late to start.
Mrs Okoli also called for the eradication of fake content creators on social media to protect the good work of female journalists.
In a keynote address, the National Vice Chairperson, B Zone, Comrade Adeola Adekunle, highlighted the importance of equipping women with tools and resources to thrive, saying NAWOJ offers workshops on leadership skills, financial literacy, and business navigation.
Lagos State Chairperson Dr. Adeola Ekine described the theme of the summit as a call to action, stressing that empowering women was crucial to achieving sustainable development goals.
The summit, themed “Empowering Women: Driving Good Governance and Economic Growth,” drew the attention of the Elegushi of Ikateland, Oba Saheed Ademola, represented by Alhaji Olanrewaju Bakare, past and present leaders of NAWOJ and NUJ
