The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has extended heartfelt congratulations to Lt. Col. Anele.
In a statement made in Abuja, NAWOJ National Chairperson Hajiya Aisha Ibrahim described the appointment as a landmark achievement and a bold step toward gender inclusivity within the armed forces.
This trailblazing appointment marks a significant milestone in the Nigerian Army’s journey towards gender inclusivity and diversity,” Ibrahim said, praising Lt. Col. Anele’s outstanding professionalism, dedication, and expertise in public relations.
The Association noted that the new director’s leadership will not only enhance the Army’s public engagement efforts but also inspire a new generation of young women to pursue leadership roles in the military and beyond.
We look forward to seeing the impact of her leadership on the Nigerian Army’s public relations department,” she added.
The commendation was also echoed by NAWOJ National Secretary, Wasilah Ladan, underscoring the organization’s support for women breaking new ground in traditionally male-dominated fields.
In a groundbreaking development, the Nigerian Army appointed Lieutenant Colonel Anele Onyinyechi Appolonia as the Acting Director of Army Public Relations—making her the first female officer to ever hold the position.
Lt. Col. Anele, a distinguished member of Direct Regular Course 15 and an active professional within the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), is set to officially assume her new role on April 22, 2025.
As Lt. Col. Anele steps into this historic role, all eyes will be on her to lead with the same excellence that has marked her career so far.
