National Flag Designer Burial: Oyo Acting Gov Unsatisfied with FG Body Language

The Oyo state government has expressed dissatisfaction over lack of support from the federal government in organising a befitting burial rites for the Pa Michael Taiwo Akinkunmi who designed national flag

At the Lying-in-State and Funeral Service held for the national hero at the liberty stadium, Ibadan, Acting governor of Oyo State, Chief Lawal who spoke for the state government explained that the burial of Mr flag should not behave been left with Oyo state government and the family alone.

Chief Lawal, who gave a short tribute after paying his last respect to Pa Akinkunmi where his body was displayed, noted that going by the place of pa Akinkunmi in Nigeria’s history, the federal government should declare a more befitting programme to immortalise the man whose creative work holds the country united till today.

Pa Michael Taiwo Akinkunmi, whose remains were interred at his private residence, was a national honour recipient of the Officer of the Order of Federal Republic, OFR. He died on 29th August, 2023 at the age of 87. Speaking on behalf of the family, Son of the deceased Akinwunmi Akinkunmi, lamented that the burial suffered delay due to unfulfilled promises from government who prevailed on the family not to rush his committal

We fought many battles while our father was kept in the morgue for one year. The family had initially taken the decision to burry him in our own way but, they came from government that we should allow them to honour him. All we got was zero promises, all thanks to the Oyo state governor Seyi Makinde who gave us money and support “.

In his sermon, The General Overseer, The Gospel Faith Mission International, GOFAMINT, Pastor Elijah Abina, Represented by the General Secretary, Pastor Solomon Omowumi, enjoined the people to evolve means of contributing their quota to the development of the country rather than being over reliant on the government.
