The Ikare Central Mosque in Ikare Akoko, Ondo State, has been officially reopened, bringing an end to almost four years of closure and restoring regular worship activities in the community.
The reopening followed a stakeholders’ meeting held at the local government secretariat, where key Islamic leaders and government representatives discussed steps to ensure a peaceful and inclusive return to worship.
The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Ondo State Muslim Welfare Board, Alhaji Zikrullah Adams Chandy, the Chief Imam of Ikare Akoko, Sheikh Abubakar Muhammed Abbas, and other prominent clerics and stakeholders.
The gathering was convened in compliance with the directive of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, who had earlier ordered the reopening of the mosque as part of efforts to resolve longstanding disputes.
Among those present were the Grand Mufti of Ondo State, Sheikh Shehu Batuta; Hon. Al-Amam, Special Adviser to the Governor on Mobilisation; Imam Ganiyu Bello (Chief Olodeke); Imam Mumuni Olarewaju; and other religious leaders.
Discussions at the meeting focused on resolving issues that led to the mosque’s closure on October 18, 2022, as well as establishing measures to promote unity, peace, and cooperation among worshippers.
Following the deliberations, participants proceeded to the mosque for the official reopening, which was marked by prayers, celebrations, and visible excitement among residents and members of the Muslim community.
The reopening is seen as a significant step toward strengthening communal harmony and restoring religious activities in Ikare Akoko.
