Ibadan Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Alumni Association Worldwide of University of Ibadan, has appointed four distinguished alumni as Global Ambassadors to coordinate and strengthen ties with members of the faculty community residing abroad.
The newly appointed ambassadors are Dr. Abimbola Oshin (United States of America), Dr. Adewole Adekola (United Kingdom), and Dr. Omotayo Conteh (Canada), who will serve as focal points for alumni engagement and professional collaboration in their respective regions.
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Ibadan, renowned for producing top-tier veterinary professionals, said the initiative aligns with its vision of sustaining academic and professional excellence across borders.
The association emphasized that the move would not only strengthen alumni relations but also expand the faculty’s international partnerships and global influence.
According to the association, the creation of the Global Ambassadors’ network became necessary following the increasing migration of professionals to different parts of the world. The initiative aims to foster connection among alumni, promote professional support, and enhance the visibility of the faculty’s contributions on the global stage.
The Alumni president, Dr Ibikunle Faramade, noted that the ambassadors would play key roles in assisting colleagues relocating abroad to settle into their new environments. They are also expected to facilitate professional linkages, mentorship, and networking opportunities for Nigerian veterinarians practising overseas.
Delivering the distinguished Alumnus Guest Lecture, Dr Ibrahim Arasi, explained that Veterinary medicine was not merely care of animals but a discipline that bridged human, animal, and environmental health, playing a crucial role in food safety, security, and sustainable ecosystems.
Dr Arasi, who spoke on the theme: “The Veterinary Profession in Nigeria, Current Realities and Future Possibilities”, highlighted the significance of the veterinary profession, noting that addressing global challenges, including public health, disease prevention, and environmental sustainability, requires the expertise and commitment of veterinarians.
Commending the Alumni Association, the Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Ibadan, Dr Babalola Olugasa, hailed the association for its mentorship activities in innovation, and development of emotional intelligence among the veterinary professionals.
