The first lady made the call at an event organized to commemorate the 2023 World Toilet Day Celebration, themed, “Accelerating Change” which took place on the premises of the Ministry of Environment, Ibadan, the State capital.
Mrs. Makinde called on health centers to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to make sure proper disposal techniques are used by the public, especially nursing mothers to avoid polluting the environment and posing a health hazard to other citizens.
She appealed to mothers on the need to properly dispose off used diapers, saying this is a way to end open defecation in the State.
Speaking, Commissioner for Environment, Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola reiterated the Oyo State Government’s commitment to tackle the sanitation crisis in the State.
The Commissioner, while highlighting the importance of, and the consequences of having parochial attitudes towards toilets in our society, also condemned the act of prevailing Open Defecation.
He hinted that maintaining proper sanitation and hygiene would promote health and enhance life longevity .
Sanitation is not just about Toilets alone, it is about human health and dignity….the absence of proper sanitation, perpetuates a circle of diseases, environmental contamination of water sources, soil degradation and the release of pollution.
