Government Vows to Clampdown on Illegal Schools in Oyo
Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Salihu Adelabu, has tasked the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), on proper registration to maintain ethics and integrity in teaching and learning in the state.
The Commissioner stated this at the 2023 Annual Convention of National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS),
Lagelu Local Government Chapter, Oyo State, held at the Victory Event Center, Akobo, Ibadan, reiterated that the ministry will continue to clampdown on all illegal Schools.
He called on those that yet to register to do what is necessary for the benefits of their schools and students.
He therefore charged the proprietors to always prioritize professionalism in their activities.
He said: This is a kind of new development to our education sector in oyo state.
“They are Stakeholders in Educational development and they have been doing their best. I’m only coming to attend the convention just to encourage them on what you are doing, they should be law-abiding and make sure that each proprietor registers duly with the ministry of Education Science and Technology.
“We are looking at this, not only from a mandatory angle, we are looking at it from an ethic and integrity angle where any students, any Oyo indigene that finishes school in Oyo state, even if the school is no more, they can only pick up their certificate at the ministry.
“The message is very simple , if you are interested in establishing a school, you make sure you do the diligence process of registering with the ministry of Education. It’s on going, let them apply, put up the letter of intention, the ministry will look at it and would keep advising accordingly to have a very standard schools in the state.
“Those that are yet to register, I’m encouraging those that are yet to register to do what is necessary, before the year runs out, by visiting the ministry of Education for registration.
In their separate remarks, the Chairperson, National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools(NAPPS), Dr. Mary Odedare and Ex-Chairman, NAPPS, Lagelu Chapter,Hon.Abideen Olagoke appreciated governor makinde for providing an enabling environment for private schools to operate, saying they will continue to support the government in uplifting the education sector in the state.
The duo gave kudos to the commissioner for Education for operating an open door policy since his assumption of office.
They both pleaded to the state government to make benchmarks available for all private schools and re-introduce the collection of letters of intent to all intending proprietors in the state.
