The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences, Iyin Ekiti, Professor Gbenga Aribisala, has emphasized the urgent need for greater investment in Nigeria’s education sector. In a recent interview with Radio Nigeria, Professor Aribisala highlighted the critical role education plays in driving meaningful societal change and positioning Nigeria to compete with developed nations.
He called on President Bola Tinubu to adopt a more holistic and proactive strategy to address longstanding challenges in primary, secondary, and tertiary education. According to the Vice Chancellor, strengthening educational infrastructure and investing in human capital are essential steps toward revitalizing the sector.
While commending the Federal Government for some strides made under the Renewed Hope Agenda—such as the provision of student loans, support for renewable energy, and improvements in student accommodation—Professor Aribisala stressed that more needs to be done.
In particular, he appealed for swift action to improve the welfare of academic and non-academic staff in higher institutions across the country. “A motivated workforce is key to delivering quality education,” he noted.
His remarks add to the growing chorus of voices calling for sustained commitment and actionable reforms in Nigeria’s education landscape.
