The Osun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC) has reiterated its commitment to fighting inducement of its personnels, overloading and other traffic violations, with the ultimate goal of achieving drastic reduction in Road Traffic Crashes, injuries and deaths, as the peak of the 2025 Ember Months approaches.
FRSC Sector Commander in Osun State, Corps Commander ‘Leye Adegboyega, fsi, stated this in a statement made available to the newsmen on Sunday.
Adegboyega said that the renewed commitment came on the heels of a performance assessment of the operations of the Command, which revealed a 1,286% rise in “Attempt To Corrupt Marshal On Duty” (ACS) contraventions, from 42 between January and October 2024 to 582 between January and October 2025.
According to him, the assessment revealed a tremendous rise in the contravention of overloading in spite of the Command’s efforts to rid the roads of grossly overloaded vehicles that pose danger to the motoring public.
“Overloading contraventions rose by 360%, from 120 between January and October 2024 to 552 between January and October 2025.
“Further to the foregoing, comparative analysis of the traffic crash records of the Command between the 3rd Quarter of 2024 and 3rd Quarter of 2025 revealed that, while the number of crashes rose by 14%, the number of deaths dropped very significantly by 66% and the number of people injured from the crashes recorded a slight increase of 1%.
The Sector Commander re-emphasized the command’s commitment to the discharge of its statutory duties and responsibilities, towards creating a safe motoring environment and minimizing Road Traffic Crashes, injuries and deaths on Osun State roads, particularly as the peak of the 2025 Ember Months period is approaching.
He urged motorists to refrain from offering bribes to FRSC personnel as inducement to overlook traffic violations, but rather, accept their contraventions in good faith, become road safety ambassadors and contribute to wiping the nation clean of vices.
“There is no going back on the decision to start prosecuting traffic offenders caught offering bribes to our personnel.
“In addition to fining them the statutory Ten Thousand Naira (N10,000.00) penalty stipulated by the FRSC Notice of Offence ticket, motorists are also advised to desist from overloading their vehicles, as this exposes them to avoidable crashes and also increases the levels of injury and risk of loss of lives from traffic crashes, “he said.
