Ex Green Eagles Squad to Celebrate Team Mate, Felix Owolabi 70th Birthday With Novelty Match
Activities marking the 70th birthday celebrations of one of Nigeria’s football legends, Dr. Felix Owolabi Akinloye kick off this afternoon with twin football matches at Lekan Salami Stadium Adamasingba, Ibadan.
Owolabi, a member of the 1980 Afcon cup winning Green Eagles squad ( now Super Eagles) will hit the platinum jubilee mark on Sunday, November 24, 2024.
An order of events from the celebrator indicates that an Exhibition/ Novelty Match between All Stars , Ibadan and Ex- National Team players come up 3pm today.
At 4pm, a friendly match up between Oluyole Warriors, 3SC team and Osun UTD follows.
Felix Owolabi, won many laurels for the Shooting Stars Sports Club and the National team, the Green Eagles.
In 1980, he was among the team that won the Africa Cup of Nations for Nigeria for the first time.
It is remarkable to note that his overlap from left back position and a high velocity left-footed strike from 40 yards gifted Nigeria the semi-final ticket against hard- fighting Atlas Lions of Morocco.
In 1992, Owolabi, a Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) played a pivotal role in clinching the newly – introduced Confederation of Africa Football ( CAF) trophy for the Shooting Stars.
