Economic Hardship: NYSC Makes Case for Corps Members Welfare
Employers have been urged to ensure adequate welfare of the Corps Members posted to their establishments to cushion the effects of the current economic realities in their services to the nation
The Oyo State Coordinator of National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Mr. Abel Oche made the call at the closing parade of 2024 Batch B, stream 2 orientation course at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Iseyin.
Mr. Oche who explained that the current economic situation which had over bearing effect on the living condition of the people, noted that provision of welfare packages from establishments where corps members perform their one year mandatory national service would boost their morale to be productive.
“The welfare of Corps Members is of the utmost importance to us. We are therefore appealing that employers provide them with the basic needs such as accommodation and transportation or allowance in lieu. I equally want to make case for corpers’ lodges in all the Local Government Councils as this will assist the Corps Members to settle down on time.”
”Accept them with love, correct their mistakes and commend them when necessary.”
Declaring the orientation course closed, Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde charged the Corps members deployed to the State to be committed to building a united, peaceful, prosperous and egalitarian society.
The Governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Miss Wasilat Adegoke, urged Corps members to play active roles in the restoration of prosperity to the country.
“I want to implore you all to be productive. Put in your best, no matter how little or big it might be, for the transformation of your host communities.
“I also implore you to cultivate and maintain a healthy relationship with your host communities. Oyo State is a pacesetter State in all ramifications, and our people are very hospitable and accommodating.”
“Fellow compatriots, I enjoin you to be diligent, dedicated and law abiding in the discharge of your duties. Shun truancy and other forms of anti-social behaviours such as cultism, drug abuse, internet scam and the likes, rather, you should engage yourself in productive activities.”
Governor Makinde assured that the State Government would be committed to the provisions of good security and adequate welfare for Corps members, irrespective of the location of their primary assignment across the State.
