The Osun State Police Command has announced plans to begin sensitization campaigns in tertiary institutions across the state to discourage cultism and other social vices.
The Command’s spokesperson, Mr. Abiodun Ojelabi, stated this following the tragic death of a fresh graduate of Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke, identified simply as Taoreed, who was struck by a stray bullet during a clash between rival cult groups.
Ojelabi noted that the incident occurred on September 22 within the school premises, when gunshots erupted as final-year students marked their signing-out celebrations.
He added that although the Command had previously issued press statements warning youths against cult-related activities, further direct sensitization in schools would now be intensified.
He assured that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators, stressing that those responsible would be brought to justice.
Reports indicated that the late Taoreed had visited the campus that day to collect his NYSC call-up letter and was waiting at the roadside to board a bus when he was caught in the crossfire.
