Children Funfair Tragedy: I Went Home Naked, Oriyomi Hamzat Recounts Ordeal
Popular Ibadan based broadcaster and owner of Agidigbo FM , Oriyomi Hamzat has recounter his ordeal at Islamic High school Bashorun field, venue of the children fun fair where many children were stampeded and recorded 35 casualties on Friday 19th December, 2024.
The Children Fun Fair was organised by the ex-wife of Ooni of Ife, Queen Naomi Silekunola, in collaboration with Agidigbo 88.7 FM, Ibadan, owned by Oriyomi Hamzat.
He explained that where it not that people’s phones were seized, his footage would have gone viral becaused he went home naked
I went home nak€d with only my boxers. If not that they seized some people’s phones, my pictures would have been flying on the internet.”
Hamzat who expressed sobriety on the incident, said he wept like a baby at the sight of the stampede
I wept like a baby when I saw how people were falling on one another. As I was rescuing those that fell, more people were rushing and stepping on those that were on the ground because of small gifts. I pity Naomi and I pity myself.”
Hamzat vowed that he would not do I such again , saying the more reason he places prices on his personal events
I will never do this again. The reason why I always collect money for my own children’s carnival is to regulate the crowd. People are greedy and selfish when it comes to free things. We invited kids, it was adults that showed up especially old people. Some people even came with two months old babies. We had to be looking for their mothers”
