CCII Confers Champion of Ibadan Development Award on Bishop Adelakun
The Central Council of Ibadan Indigene (CCII) has honored Bishop Taiwo Adelakun, the presiding Bishop of Rehoboth Cathedral and founder of Victory International Church, with the Champion of Ibadan Development award. The recognition, according to CCII, was for his significant contributions to the development of Ibadan, particularly in the Oluyole axis, where his church auditorium, Rehoboth Cathedral, and major projects like Wonder City and Dominion University were established along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.Bishop Adelakun, an Oyo town indigene and trained estate valuer from the University of Lagos, was commended by the President-General of CCII, Chief Ajewole Ajeniyi, for his dedication to humanity and the advancement of Ibadan. Chief Ajeniyi highlighted the bishop’s philanthropic efforts and the establishment of a university, noting that such ventures today are not profit-driven but focused on human development.
Establishing a university nowadays is not for profit making but for human development, you’re spending your hard earned money to develop humanity, you are also making sure that human regain their consciousness as creatures of God through your ministry.”
In his response, Bishop Adelakun attributed his success to faith in God and divine guidance, sharing the story of how his ministry began and how he was led to establish his church and other ventures in the area. He recalled how Oluyole Extension, once notorious, underwent transformation under his leadership, guided by divine instruction.
Oluyole extension was notorious when we got there on the directive of God. Our coming to Lagos-Ibadan Expressway was also through divine guidance. This is a testimony of what God can do. When I pray for Ibadan land, it’s like am carrying the weight of the whole land, and God has never disappointed.”
Bishop Adelakun’s wife, Dolapo Adelakun, also an indigene of Ibadan, expressed her gratitude for the award and prayed for continued progress in the city.
Other speakers at the event, including the Vice Chancellor of Dominion University, Professor Abel Olorunnisola, and Lead Pastor of His Pavilion Christian Centre, Rev’d Niyi Dahunsi, lauded the bishop for his humanitarian and spiritual contributions to the city.
The award ceremony highlighted the impact of Bishop Adelakun’s work in shaping the development of Ibadan and his commitment to both spiritual and societal progress.
