The United States president, Joe Biden has announced his withdrawal from contesting in the November, 2024 American election.
President Biden, a democrat candidate, on Sunday halt his second term amidst growing clamour for a step down since his unsatisfactory outing at the first debate with his Republican opponent Donald Trump
Announcing his decision via his social media handle on Sunday president nominated the Vice President Kamala Harris as replacement in the race
“While it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president for my term”.
Mr. Biden said he would address the nation later this week.
