Bird Flu Kills 300 Birds in Plateau

Report reaching us says Avian influenza, popularly known as bird flu, has killed 300 birds on a farm in Plateau.

The state Chief Veterinary Dr Shase’et Sipak disclosed this to the Newsmen in Jos, the state capital.

Dr. Sipak said that the outbreak was confirmed by the National Veterinary Research Institute (NVRI), Vom, in Jos, noting that the affected farm was located in Bassa Local Government Area of the state.

He explained that the farm had been sealed off as other biosecurity steps to avert further spread of the disease to other farms had been put in place

Dr. Sipak called on poultry farmers in the state to take stringent biosecurity steps to prevent the spread and save their birds.
