In a bold move to empower young people and boost their global competitiveness, the Ondo State Government has launched a comprehensive ICT training program for 500 youths across the state.
The initiative, which commenced with a flag-off ceremony in Akure on Wednesday, draws participants from all three senatorial districts of the state. The program aims to equip them with essential skills in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), preparing them for a rapidly evolving digital economy.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, represented by his deputy, Dr. Olayide Adelami, highlighted the importance of the initiative, which is being carried out in partnership with the Nigerian-German Centre for Migration and Development (GIZ-ZME). He expressed gratitude to GIZ-ZME for its continued support.
Our administration is committed to driving technological advancement and industrialization, both of which are critical pillars of our ‘OUR EASE’ policy agenda,” the governor said. “We are working with both public and private organizations to equip our youth with the skills they need to become self-reliant and actively contribute to the state’s economy.”
He urged the participants to make the most of the opportunity, describing them as the backbone of society and key players in achieving sustainable economic growth.
Also speaking at the event, the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on ICT and Head of the State Information Technology Agency (SITA), Tomide Akinribido, announced that the training will run for four weeks. He commended the governor for prioritizing youth development through strategic, tech-focused initiatives.
Ayomikun Olugbode, representing GIZ, praised the state government for its consistent collaboration over the past five years. He reaffirmed GIZ’s commitment to supporting programs that promote youth empowerment and digital literacy.
